Caravus Connect and Advocacy Teams Cut Through COBRA Complexity to Recover $20,000

The Client

Employer operating in the commercial laundry machine parts distribution industry

The Challenge

An employee terminated in April 2024 elected COBRA medical and dental coverage for themselves and their family that was to begin on May 1. Sadly, that individual passed away in October, but their spouse and child remained enrolled on their COBRA plan.

During Caravus’ routine ACA reporting process, it was discovered that their death date was incorrectly listed on the COBRA plan in the administrator’s portal, meaning our client continued to receive bills for their Medical and Dental coverage for months.

The Solution

To fix this, the Caravus Connect team created a reporting line for the individual’s spouse and child, as they were the qualified beneficiaries enrolled in medical coverage throughout the 2025 tax year. Simultaneously, the client’s Caravus Advocate worked directly with our carrier contacts to resolve the billing issue using the reports provided by Caravus Connect, without involving the client.

The Outcome

Our client received a $20,000 credit to their insurance invoice, which is two thirds of their monthly bill.
